Fantastic results at the Munster Schools Gala for Clonmel Swimming Club members

Clonmel Swimming Club members had a fantastic weekend of racing at the Munster Minor and Senior Schools Gala in UL.

 

There were some really exciting individual and relay performances and the club congratulates all our swimmers for representing their schools with such distinction.

 

A special mention to our medal winners over the weekend.

 

Sean Kelly, Under 12, Powerstown NS, won silver in the 100m breaststroke.

 

Toby Hayes, Under 12, Lisronagh NS, won bronze in the 100m backstroke.

 

Cian Trehy and Darragh Kelly, Powerstown NS, were part of the Under 10 200m medley relay team that won bronze.

The Under12 relay team of Sean Kelly, Jerry Moynihan, Mickey English and Owen Killen, Powerstown NS, won bronze in the 200m freestyle relay and also silver in the 200m medley relay.

 

The national qualification standard was achieved by the following:

Toby Hayes 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly

Sean Kelly 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke

Owen Killen 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke

Jack Landy 100m freestyle

Darcy Philips 100m backstroke.

 

The National Irish Minor schools gala will take place in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin on Saturday March 25.

 

At the senior level the club was also very successful.

 

The relay team of David Killen, Killian Whelan, Donal Quinn and Ben Hannafin, representing the High School Clonmel, won silver in the 200m medley relay and our second relay team of Matthew Ó Ceallaigh, Ben Hannafin, Killian Whelan and David Killen also won silver in the 200m freestyle relay.

Both teams get to do it all again, as they too achieved the national qualification to compete at the Irish Senior schools gala in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin on March 26.
