Swim Ireland welcomes decisive action from our World governing body FINA, and earlier announcements from LEN, of a holistic ban on the nations of Russia and Belarus from all international competition within the aquatics calendar, which includes the the upcoming 19th FINA World Championships Budapest 2022 in May and LEN European Championships Rome 2022 in August.

In their statement last week, FINA also confirmed that the World Short Course Swimming Championships, scheduled for December, have been removed from Russia and a new host venue will be announced in due course. It had been announced earlier this month that the World Junior Swimming Championships scheduled for August have also been removed from Russia.

The people of Ukraine very much have our hearts and minds at this time, and we stand in solidarity with them, particularly as many of the Ukrainian athletes, coaches and officials are known to us and are friends and colleagues within our sport.

To support our friends and colleagues from Ukraine who have recently arrived in Ireland, we will waive Swim Ireland fees for any athletes and help them to connect with local clubs, and we will support any teachers and coaches with equivalency for their professional qualifications.
