Clonmel Swimming Club was honoured to take part in the Ellen Cassidy Memorial Gala at UL Arena last week. Members of the swimming communit, including family, friends, teammates and rivals, came together to remember Ellen in what was both an emotional and uplifting occasion.

Ellen proudly represented Ireland from 2015 to 2019, including at the European Junior Championships in 2018. As a former Dolphin SC athlete and captain, she left a lasting impression on the sport and on all who knew her. Her tragic passing at the finish line of the Cork City Marathon in 2025 makes her memory all the more powerful.

For Clonmel SC, attending the gala was about showing respect, supporting the wider swimming community, and celebrating Ellen’s life. The event, brightened by her favourite yellow sunflower theme, captured her spirit perfectly, positive, determined and full of life.

It was a meaningful experience for everyone involved, with a strong sense of unity and some excellent swimming, just as Ellen would have wanted.
